Fork in the Road: A Companion for Women Who Are Going Back to School (And
Those Who Want To), is designed to help women who want to go back to school, but
feel they don't have the supports or tools to do it. It is, as our cover asserts,
a holistic approach. We include stories of our own experience, guided meditations,
affirmations, in addition to concrete advice about how to process information well
and use it effectively to achieve success in school. In doing all this, our book
seeks to feed the body, soul and mind of the burgeoning scholar, enabling ideas
to spring not merely from the head, but from a whole being. We offer cutting-edge,
creative ways of conceptualizing the learning and writing process and, in so doing,
simplify these tasks, making them more doable, less ominous and much more enjoyable.
We believe in the radical notion that, as composer Stephen Sondheim said, "life
is company," and that scholarship, when approached in this way, is transformed from
a solitary task into a fun, exciting adventure. From this can emerge a whole world
of creativity and accomplishment beyond one's wildest dreams. We want to help women
gather their inner resources, shore up safety, and access their whole being in order
to embody the experience of going back to school. Our goal is to help women learn
to draw in information in a full way, to process it and then to release it back
into the world, touched and ultimately transformed by their own unique perspective.
Learning, we contend, is like taking a deep breath and then exhaling and breathing
your soul, your energy into the world......
